How to increase a number by a percentage

Multiply the number by the percentage and divide by 100 to get the increase, then add it back: new value = value × (1 + percent ÷ 100).

Example: increasing 200 by 15% adds 200 × 15 ÷ 100 = 30, giving 230.

Finding the percentage increase between two numbers

If you already know the old and new values, the percentage increase is (new − old) ÷ old × 100. Going from 200 to 230 is (30 ÷ 200) × 100 = 15%.
